(93)And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah or says, "It has been inspired to me," while nothing has been inspired to him, and one who says, "I will reveal [something] like what Allah revealed." And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death while the angels extend their hands, [saying], "Discharge your souls! Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant."
(94)It will be said to them], "And you have certainly come to Us alone as We created you the first time, and you have left whatever We bestowed upon you behind you. And We do not see with you your 'intercessors' which you claimed that they were among you associates [of Allah ]. It has [all] been severed between you, and lost from you is what you used to claim."
(95)Indeed, Allah is the cleaver of grain and date seeds. He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living. That is Allah ; so how are you deluded?
(96)He is] the cleaver of daybreak and has made the night for rest and the sun and moon for calculation. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.
(97)And it is He who placed for you the stars that you may be guided by them through the darknesses of the land and sea. We have detailed the signs for a people who know.
(6:93) None is Worse Than One who Invents a Lie Against Allah and Claims that Revelation Came to Him
How does one fabricate lies against Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala?
(96)He is] the cleaver of daybreak and has made the night for rest and the sun and moon for calculation. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.
(97)And it is He who placed for you the stars that you may be guided by them through the darknesses of the land and sea. We have detailed the signs for a people who know.
(6:93) None is Worse Than One who Invents a Lie Against Allah and Claims that Revelation Came to Him
How does one fabricate lies against Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala?
- By saying Allah has a partner or that He has a son while he has no evidence to support his claim.
- It also includes fabricating statements and saying that Allah has said this while they are not from Allah.
- Calling something haram while it’s halal.
- Changing the laws of Allah.
- Inventing lies also includes claiming Prophethood. There were people during the times of the Prophet sallAllahu `alayhi wa sallam such as Musyalimah al-Kadhdhab [the liar] and even today that claim false Prophethood. A person who does this is most unjust.
“And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved… They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], ‘Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.’” Surah Anfal : 50. This indicates that the angels don’t take back the soul of wrongdoer with ease.
[ ...Ghamaratil maut...] When the disbeliever is near death, the angels will convey the “good news” to him of torment, vengeance, chains, restraints, Hell, boiling water and the anger of the Most Beneficent, Most Merciful. The soul will then scatter in the body of the disbeliever and refuse to get out of it. The angels will keep beating the disbeliever until his soul exits from his body.
(6:94) The word furada [فُرَادَى] is from the root letters fa-ra-dal and it means “single, to be alone, unaccompanied or isolated”.
This is how people will return to Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala on the Day of Judgment. They came into this world alone and will return alone. Death is something which separates people. Even people who die at the same time they are separated. People who are buried in the same grave are separated. People will return to Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala without having rank, family or friends. The wealth and money that they collected in the worldly life will all be left behind.
Hadith:
- It is recorded in the Saheeh that Allah’s Messenger sallAllahu `alayhi wa sallam said,“The son of Adam says, ‘My money, my money!’ But, what part of your money do you have, other than what you eat of it and is thus spent, what you wear and tear and what you gave in charity and thus remains (in the record of good deeds). Other than that, you will depart and leave it to the people.”
- Hasan Al-Basri said, “On the Day of Resurrection, the Son of Adam will be brought, as if he were a golden chariot and Allah, the Most Honored, will ask, ‘Where is what you collected?’ He will reply, ‘O Lord! I collected it and left it as intact as ever.’ Allah will say to him, ‘O son of Adam! Where is what you sent forth for yourself (of righteous, good deeds),’ and he will realize that he did not send forth anything for himself.” Hasan then recited this Ayah [Ayah 94]. Ibn Abi Hatim recorded this statement.
[... “And We do not see with you your ‘intercessors’ which you claimed that they were among you associates (of Allah)…”]
This criticizes the disbelievers for the rivals, idols and images that they worshipped in this life, thinking they will avail them in this life and upon Resurrection, if there is Resurrection, as they thought. On the Day of Resurrection, all relationships will be cut off, misguidance will be exposed, and those whom they used to call upon as gods will disappear from them.
In the dunya we have our friends and family who are support groups. They come forward to help us whenever we need them whether in good deeds or bad. But in the Hereafter all connections and ties will be severed. We will be standing alone answerable for our deeds. All false claims and false deities will vanish.
(6:95) Recognizing Allah Through Some of His Ayat
Faliq [فَالِقُ]. The word faliq is from the root letters fa-laam-qaf and it means “to split, to crack, to divide, to separate two things”. Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala is the One Who splits, cracks or tears. Who does He cleave? Hab [حَب] and nawa[نَّوَى]. Hab are the edible seeds and grains such as lentils and peas while nawa are the inedible seeds such as orange seeds or mango pit.
Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala states that He causes the seed grain and the fruit stone to split and sprout in the ground, producing various types, colors, shapes, and tastes of grains and produce. If we were to do this we would have crushed or damaged the seed. The most a farmer can do is to remove impediments from the growth path of the tender bud. But the real job is done by Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala. He brings the living plant from the seed grain and the fruit stone, which is a lifeless and inanimate object. He brings out a living bird from an inanimate egg or a lifeless egg from a living bird. Human input has nothing to do with it.
(6:96) Night for Rest is a Blessing
He is the Creator of light and darkness as He said in the beginning of the Surah, “And originated the darkness and the light,” Indeed, Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala causes the darkness of the night to disappear and brings forth the day thus bringing brightness to the world and light to the horizon while dissipating darkness and ending the night with its depth of darkness and starting the day with its brightness and light.
Again the word Faliq has been used which indicates One Who splits the morning that is One Who tears the dark layer of darkness apart and brings the morning out. In this Ayah, Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala reminds us of His ability to create diversified things in opposites, testifying to His perfect greatness and supreme power. He states that He is the Cleaver of the daybreak and mentioned its opposite, when He said, “…and night for rest…” meaning created darkness in order for the creation to become halt and rest during it. Both day and night are a blessing for the mankind.
It is in the day that a person conducts business transactions and domestic chores. And at night he returns home to rest after hard day’s work. If the day and night were not created people would have been working twenty four hours without rest. Absence of sleep would have disturbed lives.
The creation of day and night portrays the wisdom of Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala that He has set upon not only human beings but on all living creatures the weight of sleep in a manner that one is compelled to stop working and go to sleep. As the time of dusk approaches birds and beasts head for their nests and homes. Mankind stops its working and looks for a place to rest. Silence reigns. Darkness aids in sleep whereas light is not conducive to sleep.
[“…the sun and moon for calculation…”]
The sun and the moon have specific orbits, according to a term appointed with magnificent precision that never changes or alters. Both the sun and the moon have distinct positions that they assume in summer and winter, effecting changes in the length of night and day. The sun and moon have been created so that people can keep account of time, and keep track of days and weeks. Both sun and moon have a set routine they neither come out before time nor set early.
All of this occurs according to the decree and determination of the Almighty Who is never resisted or contradicted. Meaning the sunrise, sunset or using sun for determining time is not happening by itself. It is not possible that such a perfect system is taking place on its own. This indicates that there is Someone really Mighty that the sun and moon are in His control. He is the Knower of all things and nothing ever escapes His knowledge, not even the weight of an atom on earth or in heavens.
(6:97) What is the purpose of creating stars?
Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala tells us that He has created the stars for human beings to take benefit from. When one looks up towards the sky he doesn’t find a black sheet rather millions of stars are twinkling brightly. They also help sea travelers to chart their course in the darkness of nights when it is not easy to do. The point made here is that one should rise above heedlessness and shortsightedness and see that these stars are also there observing the command of their Maker. Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala has detailed clear proofs for knowledgeable people to take benefit from. Knowledgeable people are those who have sound minds and are able to recognize the truth and avoid falsehood.
LESSONS:
– We learn that there are three great crimes which are extremely severe. 1. Lying against Allah whether it is by associating partners or any other way. For example, the mushrikeen of Makkah considered angels to be the daughters of Allah. 2. Claiming Prophethood. 3. Challenging the Qur’an.
– At the time of the death, a person is made aware of how his end will be. A person who dies, his Hereafter has arrived. The angels give him the news of what is going to happen.
– We learn that fabricating statements against Allah leads to disgrace and humiliation. This is a severe warning as sometimes we utter statements casually stating this is from Allah.
– We learn the consequences of being arrogant towards the ayaat of Allah. How is a Muslim arrogant towards the ayaat of Allah? We don’t bother to read, understand or act upon them. We spend our times talking or daydreaming about so many irrelevant things but when it comes to the Qur’an we don’t have the time.
– In Ayah 94, we learn that we will return to Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala alone. No one can accompany us. In the dunya we are looking for a supporter who can help us pass through difficulties. If our relationship with Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala is severed then nothing can save us.
– On the Day of Judgment people will have no belongings. In the dunya people cannot be separated from their phones, gadgets, cars or other belongings. They take away most of our time and attention. On the Day of Judgment we will be standing there without time or the belonging we spent our time on. We should look in our house and note the stuff we are hoarding. If something fulfills our need then that is it. On the Day of Judgment we will not be thinking about our latest gadgets or color coordinated clothes. This is not going to benefit us in the Hereafter.
– In the Hereafter there will be no relationship. This summarizes the fact that a person is alone. He will be answerable for his actions alone. Don’t deceive yourself by crowding up your life. When we have too many friends or stuff we are only deceiving ourselves. We have crowded up our lives only to delude ourselves. We should remember we will be alone and empty handed. Many times we don’t obey Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala or follow His commands because of the fear that we will be alone but we need to think which loneliness is better? The loneliness in the dunya because we follow the truth or the loneliness in the Hereafter when we will be locked up in columns of Hellfire?
– We learn that the sun and moon, the day and night function according to how Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala has scheduled them. Therefore, we should not complain why the day is so long or night is short. It is the decree of Allah.
– Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala has created day for working and night for resting. Therefore, we should follow this schedule.
– We use the lunar calendar for ibadaah to determine months and the solar calendar to determine Salah timings. This indicates both the sun and moon are used for calculating time.
– There is a purpose behind every creation of Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala. We should look around us and observe each of His Ayaat and reflect on them. Those people who have knowledge only they will benefit from these signs.
