Surah Al An'aam Notes (31-34)

(31)Those will have lost who deny the meeting with Allah , until when the Hour [of resurrection] comes upon them unexpectedly, they will say, "Oh, [how great is] our regret over what we neglected concerning it," while they bear their burdens on their backs. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.

(32)And the worldly life is not but amusement and diversion; but the home of the Hereafter is best for those who fear Allah , so will you not reason?

(33)We know that you, [O Muhammad], are saddened by what they say. And indeed, they do not call you untruthful, but it is the verses of Allah that the wrongdoers reject.

And certainly were messengers denied before you, but they were patient over [the effects of] denial, and they were harmed until Our victory came to them. And none can alter the words of Allah . And there has certainly come to you some information about the [previous] messengers.

(6:31) Allah describes the regret of the disbelievers when facing Him, and their disappointment at the commencement, along with their sorrow for not performing good deeds and for their evil deeds.

....while they will bear their burdens on their backs....All the evil deeds that a man did will put on his back as a burden on the Day of Judgement. And sometimes the weight of the evil deed will be so much that the person carrying the burden will be crushed by it.

(6:32) What we do in this world is being compared to play and leisure. Just like how a football player chases the ball, similarly people in this world run behind the worldly pleasures and desires chasing them and trying to acquire them.

(6:33 & 34) Comforting the Prophet.

Allah commands the Prophet to be patient just as the mighty Messengers before him were. He also promised him victory, just as the previous Messengers were victorious and the good end was theirs, after the denial and harm their people placed on them. Then, victory came to them in this life just as the victory is theirs in the Hereafter.
